Our topic for February, 2019 is 21st Century Work. The seed for this discussion is Chapter 2 of Yuval Harari’s newest book listed below. My takeway from when we discussed this with the group is how this corresponds to those once in a century transformations that has been germinating for decades. While not on the list below, this month I was also reading Lewis Mumford’s The Culture of Cities, which describes the radical changes that took place from the the late medievel era into the early modern period.

Notably, Mumford writes how the medieval city infrastructures worked much better than we perceive today – streets and dwellings were cleaner, for example, only becoming filthy and crowded as these infrastructures were not able to handle the emergent social structure. All that to say, the world within which we live and the means of production are changing for both better and worse (as an optimist by nature, I lean toward the longer-term change to be for the better.) Here’s our starter list …
