While the long-term (as in centuries later) transformation from an agrarian to industrial society has produced staggering increases in wealth across much of the populations it took root, the transition itself has typically not gone smoothly.
The author, Tyler Cowen, a professor of Economics at George Mason University, describes parallels as we transition to a post-industrial society. While in the U.S. we’ve already gone post-industrial, and are transitioning from an information economy to one based on knowledge, the author notes some important and disturbing parallels around us today. This short, sobering article suggests we buckle up for a wild ride ahead.
